Louise Farley teaches a workshop at wildacres

This year the dates for our wild acres workshop are September 25,26, and 27th 2009.

It will be a gret weekend of fun and instruction.  Wildacres is a magical place and the energy that surround this mountain top retreat is fantastic. If you’ve never had the opportunity to come up and spend some time in Little Switzerland NC, it is breath taking and worth every penny.

check out their web site at http://www.wildacres.org
if your interested in attending this workshop email me at shantmarie@aol.com

Louise will be encouraging exploring other mediums beside watercolor and will be demonstrating Acrylic on Yupo paper.

Koi in july

The terms used to describe Koi are “class” and “Variety” Breed isn’t used because even if you have two fish of the same variety or class their offspring can be anything. You’ll never know what your getting when breeding fish. It can be fun and exciting.

Here is a photo of one of my Kohaku Koi they ( the orange and white) seem to be everyone’s favorite.

I bought him when he was just about 4 inches long and now look at him. He’s a big eater and loves to look thru the lilies for any morsels hidden amongst the leaves.

Here is an update on a beautiful Koi I purchased last year. He is doing well, he still has a problem with his tail but one of these days I’ll take him out of the pond and treat it. when I bought him he was pure white then after only a short time he turned bright yellow. He is such a calm and sweet koi I hate to bother him. I named him Carrivaggio and really it doesn’t fit him because the Artist was a big time brawler and it was rumored he killed a man in a bar fight. This Koi mingles well and never seems to bother any of the others.

Work in progress….blue Koi

Blue Koi not for sale … yet

This painting isn’t finished but its a work in progress, & with a few more days of painting I’ll have it finished of course I will be sure to post it. As you can see, I’m calling it “Blue Koi” but since it isn’t finished yet I may change the name. I usually wait till the painting is complete before I name it but its difficult because you have to call them something. Otherwise you can’t talk to your family or friends about your paintings. Its sort of funny cause you can’t just say the Koi painting, I’ve painted 100’s of koi paintings. I’m working on my reference for my Geisha series while I paint these Koi paintings. I hope to have a show of some of the koi paintings during the fall. Its difficult to accumulate many large paintings as only the most expensive don’t sell quickly & usually all of the paintings are fairly reasonable in price so I have to hold some back to actually have enough for a show.
