Cool Nights, Warm Days

March 3, 2009

this 8 by 10 watercolor on gessoed masonite is for sale for 90.00.
It started out as a lake painting but the water painted in the foreground really threw off the balance and simplicity of the beauty of the trees and the little buildings, so I put in the green foreground. I like it much better now. Sometimes the painting will tell you what you will be painting today and not the other way around.

Rainy days here on Lake Wylie

August 25, 2008

These fishermen got in some fishing before the rains hit.  I gues this is the after storm from “FAE”  we need the rain so I’m not complaining.  I put out all my potted plants and left some buckets out under the trees so I can have some free water for next week.

Lake Wylie Fishermen’s Hammock

August 24, 2008

While walking my dogs I came across this fisher men’s hammock.   Basically its just a rope tied to two trees so you can sit on the bank and fish.  The seat is made by placing small branches thru the ropes and weaving them so they stay in place.   Of course I had to sit in it and it was actually pretty comfy.  This hammock stayed up for over a year an a half and one day when I went by this secluded fishing spot, I was sad to see it was gone.  Of course it was probably taken by the same person who left a big mess all over the ground nearby of beer cans, tackle remnants, bait cartons and cigarette butts.  Geeze people… don’t litter the lake,  I just hate that!  Take a trash bag and carry it back out!

I think it would be fun to try to make one of these… Mine would probably drop you on your rear end!

Baby Lizard camps out in Plant

August 21, 2008

This baby lizard had me thinking he was changing colors but all along I had two babies living in my Hibiscus.  One was brown & the other green.  I finally saw them at the same time and figured out why the little critter  seemed so hungry.    I put that little flower bud in the plant for him because there were avids and ants on the bud and I thought I could watch him eat. I watched him for a few moments and out pops his cousin.  Its great having a yard with so many critters.  I never spray any pesticides because I don’t want to kill off any of the good bugs.  Or in this case… baby lizards.

Lake Wylie Heron

August 18, 2008

I took this photo of a Blue Heron sitting on the dock near my home.  I love going down to the lake and  I usually see at least one Blue Heron or Snowy Egret.  They are interesting birds, especially when they fly over , I can’t help thinking of Pterodactyls.

Cooler days in Lake Wylie

August 12, 2008

Its hard to imagine these cooler days when its the middle of summer, but they will be here soon enough.  This is Camp Thunder bird in winter, the campers are all at home and the canoes are stacked up on their racks, the snow looks like powered sugar on the ground while the lake has a mist rising into the cool air.

Summer is fun but winter is beautiful and quiet.

A combination that is hard to beat.
