Tulip Buds

Arew you getting tired of tulips?  Well here are three little buds.

I’ve had a bit of a sinus problem this week …. you may have noticed I haven’t painted much.  I find it difficult to paint if I’m under the influence of medication.  Either I’m too wired or too sleepy.

RED, RED, RED

tulips

I think these photos just don’t turn out at night as well as those taken in outdoor light.   This painting is much more delicate than this photo shows.  I think its the flash.

It is 11:54  PM and I’ve just finished this painting and hurried to get it on line before midnight.  I’ve really been having a difficult time getting all these commissions finished.   I had three  this week, and two of them were larger paintings, I’m still working on them, I’ll try to post them later this week if I can.

Barb’s Tulips

Ok let’s  see if this is the one, I made sure to measure the painted portion of the piece so that it would end up being 8 by 10.  The  actual painting is larger but since its just white, the buyer has the option  of framing it small or bigger.

This painting is a bit more whimsical.  It appears to me that the one tulip in the middle is being held on to by the two smaller tulips.

I guess I’ll hit the hay… its 1:57 am and I have to take the dogs to get their teeth cleaned at 7:00 am.

A painting a day “Tulips ll”

This is 9 by 12  $75.00 and I didn’t think about it till I was finished but this is almost too big.   See, I always uses  Arches  paper which is smaller than Frabriano Artistco paper and when I make these small paintings I cut the paper in half.  Not thinking I did this, painted the painting and when I went to measure it, I realized it was too big.  opps.. Well I’ll paint another tomorrow not exactly like this but some tulips.   I’m using my new paints and I think this red is a touch brighter than the other red.

Dolphin Daze

I used to teach watercolor classes and Dolphins were a favorite subject of my students. Dolphins always seem so happy. They convey a sweetness and a wonderful spark of energy which is genuinely curious.
Next month I’m going to be doing a series of paintings which are related to the Earth and specifically water.  Be prepared to see some lake paintings because Lake Wylie is a great subject but I may do some under water paintings too. I’ve been working them up in my mind.  Usually I’ll walk the dogs several times per day and while on these walks I allow my mind to develop paintings. I see mist rolling across the water in the early morning light with fishermen standing in their Bass boats, also another painting of White Egrets and Heron standing at the waters edge or just taking off from the water.  Of course my beloved Koi looking up thru the water to the surface, and  then there is always colorful sailboats and  wonderful sunsets.  I look forward to my month of water paintings, and I hope this month of painting water will remind you how precious each dop of rain and every inch of water is to  us and our planet.

Morning Glories

I love these flowers and usually grow some every year or at least try to.  Some years I get them in too late and they just don’t make it especially if they’re small when it gets really hot.  Also the slugs love them, I’ve come out to the yard to find just the stems of my newly planted seedlings. Beer works to get rid of them.  I just pour some beer in a saucer and the little sluggetts  go to their maker.

“Little Pinks” a wild flower watercolor painting by Shanti Marie

four pinks

7 inches by 8 inches watercolor, on paper $25.00

This little painting was basically painted from my imagination, I wanted to try out some new paints I received as a gift from a friend who is also an artist.   Earlier this week a box arrived for me and inside was all kinds of watercolors and inks.  It was like a holiday!

I’ve been painting with the same pallet for at least two years so its fun to try some different colors.

Sleepy Koi

Watercolor on gessoed paper $45.00

This little guy looks tired to me so I decided he can be called “sleepy”. If you have fish you know some of them are always swimming fast and darting around then there are those that kinda hide under stuff and only come out when your not around.  This fish is just a little tired and  he is hanging out near the bottom of the pond.

Koi pond

koi

8 by 12 watercolor  $80.00

This is painted on gessoed masonite  & it has been sprayed with a fixative so it can be framed without glass.   I have spent a lot of time lately looking at ponds and I guess it was just a matter of time before I painted a pond.  With any good pond there has to be fish so I painted a few Koi to splash around.

I’ve had lots of fun painting the Monet series lately but I have to admit it…. one of the paintings didn’t quite turn out as well as I would have wanted.  Every one has a bad day at times and I’m not blaming my brother  BUT… I have told him numerous times “Don’t come over while I’m painting”  but  some folks including my relatives think painting for me is like eating…  They think it looks so easy and I paint so fast that I could do it in my sleep.  The think you can still paint well while having a conversation about something as insignificant or nutty as, say.. the problems of ebay or the election or even the compost heap.  You get the idea.   For me this is not true.

As an intuiative painter I have to be in my own space. but not wanting to be rude… I start in with the painting trying to get back to where I was before the compost heap became so important that he walked across the street to tell me about it.

I’m standing at the easel looking down at my painting  trying to figure out where I was going next thinking it is almost done and as he talked and talked and talked, I kept mixing and mixing and mixing.  Now, anyone who paints knows this alone is a recipe for a major mud fest.  Even I knew when I was mixing it this can’t be good, but I kept trying, I painted and  mixed and painted and remixed, trying to make it work, while occasionally saying  ”  “right”  “Yeah?”  ” really ”  “Hm”.   The only color I was really getting of course was gray and no real values… so after he left, I took the painting outside to dry and this little painting must have had 1/2 inch of paint on it.  Three days later and I’m pretty sure it isn’t dry yet.  I should have scraped it off but I didn’t have the heart.

A day like no other lll

landscapes
11 by 15 watercolor on paper $175.00

Don’t laugh but I have painted this painting three times. I’m not sure why I find it intriguing but I do. Now don’t get me wrong I have changed a few things each time and they are all a bit different yet very much a like. Perhaps its like having the same dream, you don’t know why that happens either.. but it does.  I love these colors and the idea of the path and the trees…
