I was looking for a solution to lighten up the last two paintings which were a bit dark for my liking. Even though I had several people say they love the dark backgrounds, I decided to try painting Acrylic white over the Gesso and then watercolor over that. I think the look is closer to watercolor on paper. The paint sits on top a bit more and the white base coat is allowing the watercolor to be transparent and a bit fresher than the acrylic on gesso. I will have to spray it with a clear coat or a fixative, so that it can be hung without glass. This is painted on wood which is about one inch thick.
