Abstract in red, yellow and blue
I got home late last night after a long day and started to paint. I started out in watercolor and ended up in acrylics. As an artist who likes to paint abstractly when stressed, I thought the creative process would allow me to relax. Of course there is still some planning and I thought I would do a watercolor on Gesso. I mean I really wanted to gesso this paper but since my jar opener is in the Hospital … I had to go a different direction. Looking thru my stack of jars, I saw a bottle of frisket that a Windsor Newton company rep had given me a few weeks ago. I applied this “permanent fristkit” on the paper and blended red watercolor with it. It turned Pink immediately and so I figured I would balance that with dark brown. It looked nice,,, too nice if you know what I mean, a little sweet for me . Next thing I know I ‘m getting out the acrylics. Nothing too difficult just primaries… red, blue and yellow. An hour later.. here is what I painted. During this process I always see things as they happen and decide if I want to go in that direction or not. This is the painting process I use for abstracts.. I make decisions as I go along not knowing where the painting might lead.

I always find myself moving from watercolor to acrylic, and then sometimes to oil. I figure with a limitless amount of energy I’d probably move into concrete, then marble, then metal, and then end up with a small planet or something.
